Do I need a “Studio Headshot” or a “Branding Session?

Studio Headshot Sessions are perfect for lawyers, non-profit leaders, real estate agents, bankers, and consultants who need one simple, excellent new headshot for LinkedIn or their website. Studio headshot sessions are fast (20-30 minutes), in the studio (located in Dedham, MA) with a plain background, and include just 1-2 retouched photos. Basic Headshots are tightly cropped head-and-shoulders photos that show what you look like.

In contrast, a Branding Session is 60-75 minutes, which gives us time to make a variety of photos that you could use in many more places than just LinkedIn. We can try different outfits, experiment with a variety of poses, play with lighting scenarios, incorporate props like laptops and go to more than one location (indoor and outdoor, for example.) Branding Sessions include up to 5 final retouched photos. That means you get a nice new photo for LinkedIn AND one to use on your website, one for your book cover, one for a campaign poster, and one for that conference where you’re presenting. Branding photos are best for consultants, entrepreneurs, real estate agents, therapists, and lawyers who need more than just a head-and-shoulders photo in their marketing materials.

(Location Portraits are essentially Studio Headshots done on location.)

All sessions feature the same collaborative approach that I use to ensure we make photos where you look relaxed and comfortable. After both sessions you choose your favorite photos from a selection of proofs. Retouching is always included!

How many images are included?

Studio Headshots include two (2) final, high resolution digital files. Additional files are available for $75 each.

Branding Sessions include up to 5 retouched final images. Again, additional files are available for $75 each.

Location Portraits are essentially Studio Headshots done on location. Each individual receives 1 final image.

What should I wear?

For your business portraits, pick comfortable clothing that represents you and your brand. For most industries, the suit-and-tie corporate look has given way to a relaxed and approachable style, so wear what is appropriate for your industry. Make sure it fits well, falls right, is clean and ironed. Either solid colors or simple patterns so that the clothing doesn’t take the focus off of your face. Check out some more tips on what to wear.

Can we do my headshot outdoors?

Of course! We can do your headshots and business portraits either in my studio, in your office or home, or outdoors. You choose the right location for you. But consider that shooting outdoors brings a whole host of variables, including the weather and inconsistencies in the background. If you need your photos produced and available on a specific date, or if you need a consistent background, consider the studio instead. Should I get my hair and makeup professionally done?

I do recommend getting your hair and makeup professionally done the morning of your photo session. Not only does it reduce the amount of necessary retouching, it also helps you feel more confident in front of the camera! Your favorite salon or stylist can probably help with your hair, and if you need a recommendation for a makeup artist, I have got you covered! I need a haircut – do I get it that day?

Haircuts and coloring should be at least a day before. We want you to look fresh, but not brand new. Here is a list of tips on how to prepare for a session.

What color backgrounds do you have?

In the studio, I have a white, gray, and black background for you to choose from. I can help you decide what is the right color for your brand and style. Not sure if you’d like your photo taken in the studio or on location? Here are some tips to help you decide.

Is retouching included

Always! Within reason, of course. We want you to look like you, but smoother 🙂

I hate having my photo taken. How can you help me?

You are not alone! I empathize with how hard it is to get in front of the camera! I employ a collaborative approach where we review the photos we’re making in real time and you can offer your feedback and input throughout the session. This helps me ensure that I am making exactly the photos you want.

Most people have no idea how to pose in front of the camera and feel very uncomfortable doing so. Don’t worry! I know all the tricks for posing in a way that feels comfortable and looks great.

I love the challenge of photographing people who don’t think they photograph well – the joy and surprise in their beautiful final product is a terrific reward.
