I saw this wonderful couple not long ago – we live in the same neighborhood! – and it reminded me just how magical their wedding weekend was a few years ago.
I almost always work with couples who value the experience of their wedding over the stuff that goes along with a wedding. John & Miriam were a perfect fit. They chose to celebrate their wedding at Ohana Family Camp in Vermont, which is so picture-perfect and so wonderfully “Vermont” that I almost didn’t want to leave! (I am currently scheming to get my family up there for a family camp vacation!) They got ready in their own rustic cabins and had a first look on a cabin porch overlooking the mountains. Then, after some family photos, we all gathered in front of the main hall for an outdoor ceremony. The toasts at this wedding are probably among the best I have ever seen – I laughed so hard I cried! – and after dinner all of the guests paraded and sang their way to the Barn for dancing and cake. Maybe it was the setting, or maybe it was weather, or the food, or the herbs-as-centerpieces, or the couple and their down-to-earth approach. Or maybe it was the perfect combination of all of those things. This wedding stands out to me among the hundreds I have been to, as one where the couple really found a way to celebrate their relationship in a memorable and unique way.
