Engagement Photography in Arnold Arboretum

When I do engagement photos for couples (which I do for all of my wedding photography clients as part of their package) I always encourage them to think of a location that is special for them, that says something about their relationship, and that has some significance to both of them.  When we find a location that is truly unique to the couple, we end up with engagement photos that are truly unique as well.  (If you’re in doubt as to whether engagement photos are really worth it, read my post explaining why they are!)

One of the favorite locations for engagement photos on this side of the Charles River is the Arnold Arboretum, which straddles the neighborhoods of Jamaica Plain and Roslindale.  Not only is it gorgeous, but it is an outdoor space that a lot of people really feel connected to.  You wouldn’t think it was that unique – after all, on the surface it is just another park.  But the Boston Common and the Public Garden don’t have nearly the same number of quiet, private little nooks that the Arboretum has.  Even though you can’t picnic in the Arboretum, you can easily snuggle on a blanket for hours and not be bothered by another human or a screaming child or the sound of car horns.  I think it’s this reason that couples love having their photos taken in the Arboretum.

And like I said, it is gorgeous.  Really a magnificent place with so many lovely backdrops for wonderful photographs – I am rarely the only photographer there on a given summer evening!  Marie and Ralph chose to have their engagement photos taken in the Arboretum last week and I am just in love with the results.  We took their photos just as the sun was beginning to set – the most romantic time of day, in my opinion.  You can’t buy light like this!  Maybe this is why so many people want their photos taken in the Arboretum – the results are always stunning.
