Will you really make your own wedding album?

In this day and age of social media, Instagram, and digital files, some couples see formal wedding albums as relics of the past. I often hear that couples plan to make their own kind of album, either through a third party printer or just arts & craft scrapbooking.

Do either of these sound like you?

I admit that I used to think this way, too, and early in my career I handed couples their high resolution digital files and wished them well. But after 12 years spent photographing weddings, I can count on one hand the number of couples who actually made their own wedding album. More often than not I hear things like, “Oh those files are still sitting on the computer.” Or, “Except for the thank you notes, we haven’t printed a single photo.”

This hurts a photographer’s heart.

I get it – life is BUSY! And complicated. And exhausting. But after you have invested thousands of dollars in excellent wedding photos, the last thing you want to do is let them languish on the Internet. Pixels are nothing compared to a physical album you can hold and share.

Modern wedding albums are nothing like the wedding albums your grandparents had. Books today are digitally designed and printed, not 4×6 prints in between two sheets of plastic. They are archival and long-lasting. Custom cover options including printing on acrylic and metal! I’m telling you, people, we live in the future.

The wedding albums I like best are custom-designed 10×10″ books with 75-80 photos and either linen or faux-leather covers (no animals are harmed in the making of my albums.) They are stunning heirlooms that last forever and are a much preferred way of showing off your wedding photos than just posting them on social media.

One of the things I like best about the process of making and designing and album is that it forces us to sit down and really look at all of the wedding photos, pick the favorites, identify the ones we want to remember forever. It’s a really fun and fulfilling process for couples to go back and enjoy their digital pixels again, then finally see them beautifully bound and printed in person.

If your wedding was more than 5 years ago and you STILL don’t have a wedding album, please reach out to me today! We can change this, and get you an album in time for your next anniversary 🙂
