Last month, I returned to the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center for another fun celebration, this one a wedding for a couple who speaks a total of four languages and had guests from all over the world. ‘Twas an appropriate venue for such a multicultural couple!
One of the things I loved about this wedding is that we made photos in so many different parts of Cambridge, and within the MAC itself. First we did some photos of J getting ready at an Air BNB nearby, then made our way to the Royal Sonesta Hotel where H was getting ready. There, on the bike path overlooking the Charles River, H&J had their first look and we did all the formal group photos. Then we all returned to the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center for the wedding ceremony on the patio outside, followed by cocktail hour in the gallery and the reception in the great hall. It felt like we did everything! And appropriately, since traveling and staying on the move is characteristic of this amazing couple.
But don’t look at these photos and see just what a wedding looked like. I hope you look at the photos and see what the wedding felt like. Do you see laughter on everyone’s faces? Do you see closeness of the families? Do you see the nostalgia as parents look at grown children? Do you see special relationships between sisters, brothers, friends?
I think every couples wants their wedding to be unique, but the fact is that most American weddings incorporate many of the same elements, so it’s hard to differentiate yourself. What makes your wedding unique is how it feels to you. That is where the magic is, and that is what I think is most important. Dresses and cakes and favors and centerpieces and playlists all will come and go, as trends do. The memories and the feelings from your celebration are what you’ll remember.
