While I love photographing all kinds of people, food, and events, my passion lies in providing photography for mission-driven non-profit groups and small businesses to document their work, celebrate their accomplishments, and promote their issues. Last week, I worked with a new client, Strong Women, Strong Girls, which is a fabulous mentoring program for girls and women with a strong presence here in Boston.
The event was their annual Strong Awards, during which they give awards to top mentors, top leaders in business, and a special award to a woman who has helped “spark” women’s achievements in Boston. This year’s Spark Award Winner was Barbara Lee whose foundation (The Barbara Lee Family Foundation) “advances women’s equality and representation in American politics and in the field of contemporary art.”
Strong Women, Strong Girls Boston has chapters at 6 local colleges. College students mentor girls in grade schools, and in turn, they receive mentoring from women leaders in the worlds of business, politics, and education. I could see from the enthusiasm that exuded from every attendee at last Thursday’s event that the positive effects from these circles of mentoring are wide-reaching and powerful.
If you support girls’ and women’s achievements and want to know more about how YOU can mentor a young woman in her journey to greatness, check out Strong Women, Strong Girls and find out how to get involved.
