And on a less romantic note, this month I photographed the annual conference for the Financial Managers Society at the Seaport World Trade Center. While the content of the discussions went a little over my head (things like banking transactions, investment portfolios, foreclosed real estate tend to go in one ear and out the other) I did have a really fun time documenting the day.
My approach to conference photography isn’t that different from wedding photography, parties, and non-profit event photography. I stand back and observe what is going on around me, then try to tell the story of the event or the day or the people in a compelling and artful way. I don’t direct, I don’t manage, I don’t get in people’s way – I spend a lot of time kneeling on the floor and watching while I wait for a photograph to happen.
