Last night, I went to a meeting for all of us who are participating in Roslindale Open Studios on November 3rd & 4th! I am excited to participate – I moved from Jamaica Plain to Roslindale over the winter, so this is my first time at Open Studios in this neighborhood. It seems like a good group of artists and a range of very nice work, so here’s hoping for good weather and lots of community interest!
My Open Studios presentation is going to be a little bit different from everyone else’s though, because I am a commercial photographer and don’t produce the kind of “artwork” that you buy to hang on your wall.
So, I will be using Open Studios to display and promote my wedding photography and family portrait photography. In addition to having prints displayed (which is sort of a requirement of Open Studios) and in addition to having snacks and wine (which is an unofficial requirement 🙂 I will have a photo booth set up in my living room! Well, not so much as “booth” as a background, studio lights, and fun props to play with. My goal is to have families, couples, and groups of friends come through to have their photo taken, which I will then email to them later in the afternoon. I want people to look at my work, but also experience it. After all, whether or not you like working with a wedding photographer or a portrait photographer is not something you can learn from looking at their website. It is only something you can learn by meeting them, interacting with them, and watching them work.
Roslindale Open Studios is Saturday November 3rd and Sunday November 4th from 11:00am-5:00pm. My photo booth will be up and running both days, so come by my studio at 118 Cummins Highway anytime that weekend! I’d be glad to see you and get the chance to work with you.
