When it comes time for you to have a new headshot, it’s easy for us photographers to tell you to just “relax,” and “act natural.” But let’s be honest: actually being relaxed and natural in front of the camera doesn’t come easily for most of us. Especially if you have ever taken a bad picture – and we all have. That little voice in your mind starts reminding you of that time you took a bad picture and then you get more tense and then you look tense in the photo so you hate how you look and then you get more tense and then the cycle just runs away with you! Has that ever happened to you?
That is why I tell people that when we work together, we are going to break the cycle of bad photos! We talk about what you want your photo to look like. You share what you’re self-conscious about. And then you keep an open mind while we try different shirts, poses, and expressions. Before long, you begin to see the real you shine through the photo. It’s not so hard to be yourself in the studio and make a photo that you actually like.
The goal is never perfection. The goal is to look like the best version of yourself, where your personality shines, and you look confident and comfortable. Plus, we have fun. At the end, you walk away knowing that you finally have a headshot that doesn’t make you cringe.
My process for making portraits is super collaborative and laid-back (which is actually my process for making every kind of photograph.) We take a bunch of photos and then look at every photo together right away on the computer, so that you can see what you look like, offer specific feedback, have my input as well, and then make adjustments before we do another round of photos. Once we have one you’re satisfied with, we retouch it and make it look even better. The I send you a high-resolution, touched-up file within a day or two and you’re good to go.
The beginning of the year is a great time to think about having a new portrait done, and I can make it simple and stress-free for you. So get in touch soon and let’s get your 30 minute session on the calendar!
