And second, since you’re wondering what makes me different, I specialize in providing highly skilled portrait and event photography without high stress.
I help couples and families remember the beautiful days and moments of their lives through stunning, authentic portraits and storytelling event photographs.
I believe the most important part of your wedding day is spending time with your family and friends, so my style of photography is non-intrusive and, while I offer suggestions, I don’t dictate the photos we make. My approach to wedding photography is as a storyteller; I am telling the story of two people in love, who have chosen to celebrate their love with a big party!
Much of how I work as a portrait and wedding photographer comes as a response to what I don’t like about the wedding and portrait industry. Because while I love the joy and happiness and romance of weddings so much that my cheeks hurt from all the smiling I do, I also know that much of the multi-billion dollar wedding industry comes from outdated traditions and other peoples’ expectations.
I believe the most important thing to capture in family photos is the family. Sure, families can be messy and dramatic, but the shared experiences and shared histories and laughter and closeness make great photos. I get so much joy spending time with families in their backyards, watching them interact and making photos to illustrate their stories.

Thank you Leise!
Thank you again for your help documenting the most important day in our lives, and for being an all around genuine pleasure to work with and have at our wedding. Some of my family members thought you were a friend, and that just goes to show how great you are! Not every photographer would go out of her way to get the bride water while getting dressed!
Leise is Outstanding
Our search for the perfect wedding photographer did not take long -- we found Leise quickly through the vendor directory on A Practical Wedding, but it turned out that we were from the same hometown! Leise connected with us immediately and put us at ease during a stressful time. We were particularly impressed that she conducted an initial information session with us, during which she asked about our families and whether she should be aware of any family dynamics. We were in a wedding party a year ago where the photographer kept trying to force divorced parents to stand close to one another and made everyone quite uncomfortable; the photographer had clearly not asked the marrying couple the same kind of thoughtful, thorough questions that Leise thinks to ask. Our own wedding party and parents told us how fun, easygoing, and professional Leise was on our wedding day. Wedding party members can get stressed when they don't know where they need to be, but Leise's well-organized shot list and clear instructions put everyone at ease. As others have mentioned, her knowledge of wedding logistics is very helpful for both the ceremony and reception, and she is adept at tactfully dealing with other wedding vendors. We loved that she immediately made us a slideshow that we could enjoy during our honeymoon, and every other interaction we had with her was efficient and lovely. We give Leise our highest recommendation!
Our destination wedding!
Leise traveled with us to the DR for our wedding in April 2009. She was so professional and such a great help to us throughout the day. She ended up being a photographer, translator and friend to us all! Her photography is lovely and her presence wonderful!
Talented, professional, and fun
Good vendors can make a big event like a wedding seem smooth and easy, and Leise is one of the best out there. Not only is she a skilled photographer, but her warmth and genuine pleasure at working with you make every interaction a positive experience. We came to Leise with a budget and she designed a package that was great for us. Even though she traveled 2.5 hours each way for our wedding, she charged us NO travel fees because she could stay with family near our venue. When was the last time a business person actually looked out for you like that? Leise was very communicative, always responded to emails quickly, and was easy to reach with questions before and after the wedding.
During the wedding, she coordinated easily with the site manager and the DJ to make sure everything ran on time and that she was in the right spot for pictures. As someone who attends weddings professionally, Leise was a great resource for day-of details that everyone else forgot (for instance, she was the only one who noticed that my bustle was still up before walking down the aisle, and she actually got down on her knees to help untie it quickly). I thought I would be uncomfortable with a photographer around all day, but Leise makes you feel like she is a friend who just happens to have a camera to capture beautiful photos.
I didn't realize how much photographer interaction there would be post-wedding, but we've probably emailed with Leise more after the event than before. She's been very patient in letting us choose the pictures we wanted for prints and a photo book, and has worked her behind off to get us proofs quickly. I'm pretty picky, and Leise has been a pleasure to work with both before and after the wedding.
We initially liked Leise's portfolio for her "journalistic" style---photographs that are clean, natural, and mostly candid. What we didn't realize is that she rocks at capturing those fleeting moments that only last a second or two. At our wedding, my new husband and I walked back up the aisle and I flashed our rings at Leise with a big smile on my face, just for a second. That photo is now one of my favorites. She caught my father dancing with a look of unbridled joy; I'm going to treasure that picture for a long time.
In short, Leise is a warm, professional, talented photographer, and I couldn't recommend her more highly. If I ever have a photographer-worthy event again, I'd hire her in a heartbeat.
Perfect Day, Perfect Photographer
Our wedding was a perfect day from start to finish due entirely to our cast of vendors, and Leise Jones was the best of all of them. We met Leise during our short engagement and decided on having her as our photographer right away. It's true that a picture speaks a thousand words - Leise's work samples alone convinced us of her skill and her ability to tell the story of our special day. Beyond that, though, Leise's personality drew us in - after our first meeting and our engagement photo session, we knew we would not only tolerate spending a day in front of her camera lens, but actually enjoy her company, spirit, and energy. On the day of our wedding, Leise orchestrated every detail and worked closely with our wedding site coordinator and our DJ to ensure that everything went smoothly and as efficiently as possible. We didn't have to think or worry about anything all day long. When we received our first set of edited photos the day after our wedding, we were thrilled. Now that we have all of our photos (just a month after our wedding - wow!), we couldn't be happier. Everyone is raving about Leise's work and we are thankful that we chose Leise to preserve the memories from our perfect day.
My fiance and I hired Leise to photograph our wedding next year and were really pleased with the engagement photo shoot we did a few months ago. We were pretty nervous about being photographed but Leise put us at ease and captured our happiness beautifully. Another reviewer here called Leise's photos "flattering, authentic, and joyful"--I couldn't agree more!
I absolutely love all of our pictures!!! They came out great!! Leise was awesome to work with. She made us feel very very comfortable and I also received many compliments from our guests as to how professional and nice she was.
Leise was a wonderful addition to our small wedding. Her professionalism and candidness really helped everything go smoothly - everyone thought she was one of our personal friends! Plus, her super sneaky ninja photography skills made me glad that, even though we couldn't see her, I knew she was getting some priceless shots ;-) We will treasure our photos forever!
Leise has come to our home several times to take pictures of our kids and we always love her work. She is great with the kids; she never makes them sit still but rather keeps them busy and having fun while she takes pictures. Her pictures are humorous and heart-warming, never formal and fancy. We plan to have her back every year to document our family and I highly recommend her!
We loved having Leise as our wedding photographer! We were sweetly surprised to see the pictures she took and discover where she creatively positioned herself for each moment. She captured amazing shots and was in exactly the right places at the right times! Leise has such a warm spirit. I can't wait to use her to capture more of our life story.
I absolutely loved working with Leise. She is warm, friendly, approachable and professional. She did an exceptional job photographing my wedding. I would definitely work with Leise again.
We loved working with Leise so much as our wedding photographer, that I also hired her later on to take food photos for my catering business! She is wonderful to work with in every setting and her careful attention to detail comes through in all of her photographs. I would recommend her to anyone planning a wedding, anyone who owns a small business, anyone who needs food photographs, and anyone who wants a great photographer, period!
I automatically clicked with Leise when we met for the first time. This was important to me especially on my wedding day; I wanted to work with someone that I felt comfortable with who also understood my style. Things could not have been better during our wedding. Leise was not only there to photograph us, but she went above and beyond to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. I was more than happy when I saw my wedding proofs; they came back quickly and I still smile every time I look at them. I especially like the photo of my husband, Leise and me that one of our guests took.

What is your experience with photographing weddings?
I have been a full-time photographer since 2009 and have documented nearly 100 weddings since then. I am not exclusively a wedding photographer – I also am a food photographer, a non-profit event photographer, a family portrait photographer, a photojournalist…the list goes on – but I have found that documenting the joy and love of weddings is a great source of joy for me, too, and look forward to more and more.
How far in advance should I book you?
Most couples hire me 6-12 months before their wedding, but I have also heard from couples only 2 months before their wedding and have been able to work with them. If I am not available on your date, I am happy to recommend other photographers. I require a signed contract to hold your date but do not require a deposit.
We’ve heard of photographers offering “engagement sessions.” Is this something you do?
Absolutely! Only, I like to call them “Get-to-Know-You “ portrait sessions. Most of my clients have been engaged for quite some time, so the photo session is less about celebrating their engagement and more about getting to know one another before the wedding day. Being photographed doesn’t come naturally to many people, so this gives us an hour when we can just hang out, you can get used to being photographed, and make some lovely photos. I include “Get to Know You” sessions with every wedding package over 6 hours.
We are looking for a mixture of candid and formal wedding photography. Can you do both?
I always make a combination of formal and candid photographs from every wedding. My style leans towards the more candid and documentary – the fleeting moments and memories of the day – but formal family photographs are an important aspect of every wedding.
When will our photos be ready and how many will we get?
You will have access to your edited photos via an online gallery one month after your wedding. Most of my clients receive between 600-800 images, which are culled from the thousands of images I shoot over the course of a wedding and optimized so that the colors, contrast, and exposures all look great.
Do we receive the high-resolution digital files?
All of my clients receive the high-resolution files for the edited photos from their wedding day along with full rights for personal use, reproduction, and distribution. The files are available to you 9 months after your wedding and in the meantime, you are welcome to purchase prints, thank you notes, or albums from my online print lab. Images are available to view and purchase from the online print lab within one month of your wedding.
Do you ever work with other photographers?
I prefer to be the only photographer at your wedding. My style is to blend into the party and capture the moments as they happen and find that having more than one photographer can be distracting. Further, most of my clients are planning weddings with fewer than 150 guests and need photos at fewer than 3 locations, which is absolutely doable for one person. If you are interested in having more than one photographer at your wedding, I can gladly refer you to some wonderful teams.
What kind of cameras do you use?
I use professional-level Nikon digital cameras and lenses with backups. Everything is captured digitally, in color, and edited on the computer.
Do you have business insurance?
I am fully insured. Some venues require an insurance binder from all vendors, which I can happily provide.
I would love to hear from you! Please allow for up to 24 hours for replies to email inquiries. If you need to discuss your project now, it’s best to call me at 617-671-5572.
8:30am – 6:00pm
All work is done on location. I come to you and travel fees are almost always built into the cost, so there aren’t any additional charges.
